Biography
Combining forenames Susanna Marie, SuRie is a classically trained musician and graduate from the Royal Academy of Music in London. SuRie was recently elected an Associate of The Royal Academy of Music, an honour awarded to former students for their significant contribution to the music profession.
Her debut LP 'Something Beginning With...' was the culmination of a writing and recording process that took SuRie from London to Greece, via Australia, New York, Sweden, LA and Borneo; from her home recording studio in the UK to the state of the art Malmö Live in Sweden.
SuRie is of course best known for representing the UK with her emotive and uplifting track ‘Storm’ at the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest in 2018. Her Eurovision journey started in 2015 when she was a backing dancer and vocalist for Loic Nottet, who was representing Belgium coming 4th with ‘Rhythm Inside’, and she returned again with the Belgians in 2017, with Blanche and ‘City Lights’, again placing 4th.
Most recently, SuRie launched her new LP “Dozen” to a sell-out audience at the Bishopsgate Institute in London. Dozen is a concept album, a collection of 12 completely re-vamped cover songs, one for each month of the year, and containing the name of that month in the original title. Songs by Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Florence & The Machine, Carole King, … re-arranged for SuRie’s voice, playing the piano, and accompanied by a full string orchestra.
