Still G & Slapy are an independent hip-hop duo from Milan.
The pair first collaborated on “Collision Course”, a single released on Still G’s first EP under Bentley Records. Significantly impacting local Italian radio, the track earned 3rd spot on the Top 20 AirpPlay.fm charts within weeks.
The duo’s second hit was “Endless”, recorded after UK-based Genialsong spotted their talent and approached them for a session. Within a week of release, “Endless” ranked 5th on the European Indie Music Chart and reached Top 20 on the World Indie Music Chart.
Also known as Mauro (Still G) and Mirko (Slapy), the duo’s style of hip-hop is gritty and honest. Influenced by West Coast hip-hop legends 2Pac, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg and Warren G, and a range of soulful genres from Motown to jazz, their native Italian lyrics are a space for self-expression, detailing emotional moments and personal life experiences.
Back in 2008, before working together, Still G was touring around the world with the Italian G-Funk collective, bringing his unique brand of hip-hop to the US, Europe and Asia. Meanwhile, Slapy was signed to FunkYaMama Label (ESA), and had just released a West Coast rap-inspired album that was played in nightclubs all over Milan.
Both multi-skilled as producers, rappers and songwriters, the close collaborators first met at a hip-hop concert in Milan and became fast friends based on their mutual love for the genre. They shared a similar upbringing and journey to music, with both artists spitting their first freestyles and writing their own rap lyrics as teens in the mid ‘90s.
“We love to make music and create something extraordinary,” say the duo, when asked about their motivation to make music. “We’re loyal to hip-hop and R&B music that has good vibes, that’s real, that makes you feel good, that has something to say.”
