Biography
Besinuwa Streeter's stage name is Sim Streeter. Besinuwa is Swahili, a craft maker of children's toys, and Sim is a craft maker of music. Sim was born in the Boogie-Down Bronx with a lotta flavor and style. Started singing at about 7 years old, pretending to be all the great vocalists out there, from Teddy Pendergrass to Micheal Jackson. Sim joined the choir for voice control and harmonies when he started middle school. His choir teacher, Mrs. Judith, would always have him sing the solos. Sim hated it, but it taught him to be confident and sure when performing at a young age.
At 18, Sim joined a singing group called "Casual Soul." We secured a demo deal through Mona Scott at Def Jam/ Violator Records. We met music industry professionals Russel Simons, Brandy, RayJ, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Boyz 2 Men, and many other fantastic performers. The group linked up with Full Force and Kangol from UTFO out of Brooklyn and recorded some tracks, but something else came of the venture. Casual Soul was featured on the David Letterman show and provided background vocals for LL Cool J in 1992! The group also performed at The Children's Choice Awards ceremony in the same year. The deal eventually phased out, and Sim continued performing as a solo vocalist.
Later on, Sim would join a band called FunkDaddy. Through hard work and determination, FunkDaddy performed shows at all the Atlantic City and New Jersey casinos. Sim found the casino world is slightly different, as you can only sing and perform top 40 cover songs, no originals or rap. Having fun one day, Sim recorded myself singing "You Are My Starship "by Norman Conners and placed the song on Facebook. Surprisingly, Norman Conners saw the video performance and asked Sim to perform at a show in South Jersey! It was phenomenal. Sim also recorded a video singing a remake of Hall and Oates's "Sarah Smile " and gained notoriety after placing the performance on YouTube. These beautiful situations have led Sim to continue his musical journey with Kaos Records … more to come!!
