Biography
Ryan O'Shaughnessy (born 27 September 1992) is an Irish singer-songwriter and former actor from Skerries, Dublin, known for reaching the final of the sixth series of Britain's Got Talent in May 2012, finishing in fifth place, as well as appearing on the first series of The Voice of Ireland.
Ryan grew up listening to the metal taps of shoes he didn't take much time getting used to. By the age of four Ryan was catching the eyes and ears of his parents peers and mentors. Ryan played the part of orphaned Mark Halpin in Irish Soap Fair City for 9 years (2001–2010) but left to be in a boy band called 'Mission 4’, where he got a taste of the music business. Ryan was a student in DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology) undertaking a music course in songwriting as part of BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music) in Dublin, Ireland. His love for songwriting grew
His debut single, the folk-tinged original composition “No Name” — twice performed to millions on Britain’s Got Talent — was a U.K. Top 40 hit as well as a number three hit in Ireland. His subsequent eponymous EP with Sony RCA / SYCO topped the Irish albums chart in August 2012 and climbed into the Top 10 in the U.K. The six-track disc showcased his clear, soul-influenced vocal style and gift for writing the kind of slow and moody, acoustic guitar-led ballads. Inspiration for this short but sweet collection of songs comes from the likes of Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Glen Hansard.
Ryan’s music took him across the UK and Ireland for most of 2012 through to 2014. Playing shows and making appearances. In summer 2014 Ryan decided to take time to travel, re-energise and re-inspire. His travels took him to many places around Europe and the USA where he played music to whoever wanted to listen. Since 2013 Ryan has been writing and recording for his much anticipated debut album and admits “The hardest part is letting your babies leave the nest”. Ryan also admits to experimenting with new genres which wouldn't normally be associated with him. “I’m always learning new things and trying to keep as open minded as possible”. In November 2016 Ryan released "Back To Square One" a 13 track mix of emotions, and is now Producing and Writing for other artists.
