Biography
Rough, rugged and chock-full of melody, Bryan James is an American cowboy. West Texas born and raised, James is as close as you can get to a traditional country singer these days, and he's not so much about reinventing the wheel as he is rejuvenating it. After a long days work and as dusk sets in, Bryan James is about one thing and one thing only: delivering a message – a hopeful message that rings true with the listener and can be felt down way deep inside.
Calling on the honky tonk/Western swing influence of George Strait and the roadhouse roaring pipes of Ray Price, Bryan James began playing music as a teenager. “Actually, as a child, I didn't love music too much,” he explained. “I didn't feel I could sing very well and I never played any instruments until junior high school.” Come sophomore year, James got his first guitar and couldn't put it down. “I played for hours everyday until I could play, John Denver's 'Leaving On A Jet Plane.' By writing songs, I found it as a way to be heard by my peers.”
Writing songs began to pay off, and in 1992 he was offered a recording contract with Sony Epic – but then tragedy struck. He was involved in an automobile accident that left him partially paralyzed with spinal cord damage and a traumatic brain injury. Needing nearly two years to recover, his record contract was taken off the table and his life was completely detailed. “I am still trying to overcome the car wreck,” he said. “There was life before and after that terrible day and they are two distinctly different lives.”
But just 'cause trouble comes visiting doesn't mean you have to offer it a place to sit down – and Bryan James has managed to keep his music career alive, and thrive. He's worked with some of the most respected musicians in the genre, including a notable collaboration with Wood Newton titled “Far Cry From You.” He currently has a three album record deal with ETM Records, and his latest single to be released is called “Love Becomes,” a powerful duet with singer Andrea Dee that's been spreading online and is in the top half of 1% in the Amazon music catalog.
“I want people to find love, peace, joy and happiness. If my songs can help someone find these then I have done my job.”
