LIFE
Sharuben Jonathan Hazel alias '' Stilla '' was born on December 14th 1987 in Amsterdam. Stilla is the oldest and comes from a Christian family of five. Together with his father, mother and 2 younger brothers they grow up in Amsterdam South - East. In his early years Stilla had always been surrounded with music that was played by his father.
As a son of an Antillean father and a Bonerian mother, he was taught all the finer things in live of the Caribbean. Stilla heard all kinds of music like: reggae, zouk, r&b, hip-hop soul, pop, and Antillean music. Also gospel played a big role in the Hazel family. As Christians of the Seventh day Advententist Church, faith and values were the leading role in Stilla’s young life. Artists such as Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G and Doble R are musical artists/groups that have had a large musical influence on him.
Stilla his music is a fusion of old & new school hip-hop, combined with a touch of soul/jazz finished with the rhythmic drums and melodies of the Caribbean. Stilla is an artist on all levels. Stilla sings and raps his self-written lyrics. He writes his own music and comes up with his own videos. Also he tries to be a positive influence on today's society. Stilla is committed to bring back respectful values in society. This is expressed through out its realistic lyrics, no cursing in his rhymes and the use of appropriate respectful video clips.
START CAREER
Being born and raised in Amsterdam in 2004, the family moved back to his native country Curacao. At age 15 Stilla decided to make work of his talent: writing lyrics, freestyle, rapping and singing. In the mean time Stilla was introduced to producer Sky Blue. Sky Blue produced his first mixtape called ' Welcome to my world '. Stilla gets his college degree in Curacao, but however, decides to return to The Netherlands for another education. Back in The Netherlands his cousin Rishenel Margarita, who also owned the record label Ohmerta Enterprises decides to manage Stilla. Led by his manager he records the track "Nachtwacht", on which lead singer Stanley Clementina; known from the International Total Praise Gospel Choir collaborated. In the year 2011 Stilla loses his manager, his cousin Rishenel Margarita who had lost the battle against cancer.
Stilla decides to set up his own record label "Stilla Music Group", and produces his album on his own.
PRESENT
In 2012 Stilla started with a new mixtape project called “We need more love”. It was released online on June 18th. In August 2012 Stilla returned to Curacao for a promotional tour on several local radio stations: FM 92.1, Radio Direct and Dolfijn Fm and Rock Korsow. Stilla decided to reproduce his single ' Nan no ta kumi ' again. This time the song was being produced by none other than internationally renowned producer: Mena$a (known of brainpower ft. Immorales – Alles (remix). This appeared on the “We Need More Love EP” produced entirely by Mena$a, this EP will be released early 2014.
At the end of April 2013 "Nan no ta kumi" was played on the Antillean radio 92.1 FM Direct. Meanwhile Stilla is busy with several acting projects with local Celebrity’s as well as working on his album "Van Jongen Tot Man". The highly anticipated first single "Amsterdam" was released August 2013.
