Biography

KEiiNO will represent Norway in Eurovision Song Contest with their song Spirit in the Sky. The band mix uplifting dancepop, nordic folk and joik, the traditional form of song of the Sami people. KEiiNO won the national selection with a landslide, skyrocketed to the top of Norwegian charts, and Spirit in the Sky was even the world’s second most viral song on Spotify.

At the moment, Norway is top10 on bettings and polls, and Spirit in the Sky one of the most streamed songs in the run for winning ESC. That doesn't suprise ESC-experts, as the song has elements of a typical Eurovision-hit: A cross-culture collaboration, an upbeat song and a message of equal worth.

Growing up in a small conservative town, 39-year old singer/ songwriter Tom Hugo wanted to write a song about acceptance for being different. He teamed up with 31-year old rapper/ joiker Fred Buljo, who as Sami could relate well to the story. 22 year-old singer Alexandra Rotan, who had been told she didn’t fit the pop-industry standards, came aboard soon after and made the band complete.

The 3 singers had limited success as solo artists, but made their dreams come true joining forces. A force the Samis, the indigenous people of Norway, believe you can find connecting with nature. And the northern lights, dancing colourful and free, serves as a symbol of how KEiiNO belive all people in the world should be allowed to feel. No matter who they love, how they look and where they are from.

A diverse crowd of Norwegians and Samis stood united cheering for KEiiNO during the televised ESC-selection Melodi Grand Prix. A huge win for those who have fought for acceptance of minority culture. Now, KEiiNO dares to dream their song will inspire people all over the world to rise above differences and work together.

Spirit in the Sky is inspired by Sami belief in the force you can find connecting with nature. And the northern lights, dancing colourful and free, serves as a symbol of how KEiiNO belive all people in the world should be allowed to feel. No matter who they love, how they look and where they are from.

KEiiNO is as far from a "made" project, and their whole team is made up of friends and family. They wrote Spirit in the Sky together with their Finnish and German producer-friends Henrik Tala and Rüdiger Schramm, and their families are involved in the release. Alexandras kid-brother is in charge of selling merchandise and the band works in the studio of Fred's father. And last but not least, Toms husband Alexander composed the lyrics to Spirit in the Sky.
