Biography
HERON is a UK artist, songwriter, producer, and mixer whose eclectic sound has drawn comparisons to Beck, Prince, The Beatles and many others.
As a co-writer and producer, his style has been likened to the sonic landscapes of Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, and Brian Wilson.
After a long solo hiatus, HERON returned in 2025 with Underground Sky, his highly anticipated new album on Cracked Analogue. Written, produced, performed, and mixed entirely in his own studio, the album is a deeply personal and immersive project. HERON also directs and designs full music videos and artwork for every track, ensuring a fully realised artistic vision. Each single will be released one by one throughout 2025.
The album's first three singles have received radio play on Radio X with John Kennedy, BBC Introducing, Radio RTE R1 Ireland and many more. Press features include SPIN, Rolling Stone and a host of other stunning reviews and interviews to support the releases.
Blending an uncommon mix of influences, HERON’s music weaves together Beatlesque harmonies, soulful melodic sensibilities, and baroque-inspired arrangements, creating a distinctive and homespun brand of pop.
His past albums, including Heron Vs Heron (2009) and The Brown Room (2002), have been praised for their tuneful, genre-defying approach—melding live instrumentation, drum machines, samplers, and lo-fi keyboards into an idiosyncratic, one-man-band sound.
HERON's journey began in 2000 with two self-released limited-edition 7" singles on his Cracked Analogue label, leading to a deal with Hut Recordings (Virgin/EMI). His debut album, The Brown Room, was released in 2002 to critical acclaim, including "Record of the Week" in The Sunday Times Culture Magazine.
In 2005, HERON issued ‘Not for Sale’, an independent release consisting of a lengthy improvised piano piece.
HERON completed his second album, Heron Vs. Heron, in 2004. However, when Hut Recordings folded that same year, the album remained unreleased until he quietly dropped it on Cracked Analogue in 2009.
After a lengthy absence, HERON resurfaced in 2020, collaborating remotely with then-15-year-old UK singer-songwriter Cathy Jain. Co-writing, producing, and mixing her first four singles, he played a pivotal role in her breakout success.
In 2025, HERON returned as a solo artist with new singles Transcendental Meditation, Read My Mind and Dead To It. Alongside international and national radio play breakthroughs and support from BBC Introducing, the singles received wide praise from various critics and journalists.
Forth single Paradigm is released on August 1st as HERON unveils his most accessible yet experimental album to date, one song at a time. Spanning multiple genres, Underground Sky is a meticulously crafted, deeply personal project—with every sound, lyric, and visual conceived and executed entirely by HERON himself.
“A masterclass in writing and composing a one-of-a-kind listening experience. Paradigm demands repeat listens to uncover its tiny nuances, details, and layers. One of the finest synth pop tracks you’ll hear in years.” (THOUGHTS WORDS ACTIONS)
“This brilliant pop track is an absolute must-have for any indie playlist out there, instantly infectious thanks to its captivating groove and uptempo energy.” (INDIE TAPES)
"Paradigm" doesn't just signal a new chapter for Heron, it invites you to begin one as well. Large, reflective, and unmistakably Heron, this is a statement, not just a single.” (ZILLIONS MAGAZINE)
"A bold, eclectic piece that recalls the playful spirit of MGMT, Metronomy, and Hot Chip, while remaining rooted in Heron’s own authentic vision." (FLEX)
