Biography

The brainchild of Norwegian singer-songwriter Stian Fjelldal, Birds Are Better brings a unique slant to folk music with a fusion of traditional folk, power-pop, synth-rock and indie-pop. The Other Side Reviews describes the project as a meeting between Charlie Puth and Mumford and Sons while Of Monsters and Men comes to the minds of Nordic Music Central and Music To Blame. Fjelldal himself is a huge fan of artists like Fleet Foxes and Loney Dear and you might be able to spot Birds Are Better somewhere in between. Having released two singles the fall of 2022, more singles will come before the debut album release in 2023.

Notable reviews “Only having formed in 2022, the artist can be considered a newbie in the indie music scene; however, the sophistication of his songs showcases a maturity that screams of years of experience” The Other Side Reviews

“Fjelldal’s vocals are very deep and soothing, which perfectly compliments the dark lyrics over a pretty sound” Music To Blame

“Fjelldal’s alt-folk / dream-folk is heavenly and even fantasy-like, similar to the subtle cinema that Radical Face creates” The Revue

"You can hear the psych influences that went into it along with his alt-folk bent straight away as he weaves a story, to a background of an Of Monsters and Men fairy story-style melody, that introduces the marigold, the ‘flower of the dead in pre-Hispanic Mexico’ and with an unexpected and slightly disturbing twist at the end" Nordic Music Central
