ANDREW YOUNG PROJECT

A world-famous saxophonist makes his home in Austria and records a new music project. What’s the story behind that?
The musician admits to having fallen in love with our country as a child while spending holidays here. And so, a few years ago, he decided to settle in Austria permanently.

At the beginning of the corona crisis, Andrew Young happened to be performing on a concert tour of South Africa, however, the restrictions put in place to combat Covid-19 forced him to abandon the tour and return home to Austria.

As it became clear that the corona virus was going to be part of our lives for a long time to come, Andrew Young began working on new tracks and compositions with several Austrian producers and musicians.
One of these projects is BORN TO BE FREE.

But who is Andrew Young?
A world class saxophonist ..... a breath-taking virtuoso ...... an outstanding talent!

Andrew began to study the clarinet and saxophone at the age of 8 in London.
After graduating from the Royal School of Music in London he performed with leading symphony orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestra London and the Nordwest Deutsche Philharmonie Herford and quickly forged a role as a soloist.

During this period Andrew worked with such renowned conductors as Zubin Mehta, Sydney Hearth, Sir James Galway, John Arnold, and Sir Alan Francis.

He began his solo career in 1994. His debut album “Soul People” (BMG) and the single of the same name both reached Number 1 in the charts and went platinum. This was followed by 5 nominations for international music awards, the next Number 1 hit with Gold status, the album and the single One II One.

The saxophonist from Liverpool has performed with Matt Bianco, Precious Wilson, José Feliciano, Jonathan Butler and toured with Keith Washington, Shakatak, James Galway, Gino Vanelli, Shirley Bassey and Dionne Warwick amongst others.

Eleven albums and sales of more than half a million recordings speak for themselves!

Andrew has opened sports events across the globe including the Football World Cup in South Africa, the Women’s Ski World Championships in Bulgaria, the Rugby World Cup in Cape Town, and the friendly between FC Liverpool and Rapid Wien in the Prater Stadium to name just a few.

With his unique style, Andrew Young also charmed her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and His Royal Highness Prince Charles at his concert in the Royal Festival Hall in London. In Cuba he impressed Fidel Castro; in South Africa, such prominent figures as Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu were repeated guests at his concerts.

At the latest by the time, he was thrilling millions of TV viewers as a star guest on shows such as “Wetten, dass…“, his fan base began growing here too.

Andrew Young is now expanding his repertoire of classical music and blues, R & B and smooth jazz with a new project in cooperation with a number of Austrian music producers. “Born To Be Free“ is the first single from this new joint project.
