Biography
Singer-songwriter Ricardo Williams was born in Jamaica, raised in Hackney and has now settled in Birmingham, UK. Music became a key part of his life at an early stage. He found his voice at 7 years old and started to sing in talent shows, school plays, church and around friends and family. Already at the young age of 12, he began to explore writing his own music to various instrumentals.
Ricardo’s professional singing career began with Gospel music. He released two solo projects and two projects with the gospel collective ‘The Company’. His musical style was always influenced by artists such as Boyz II Men, Donnie Hathaway, H-Town, Dru Hill, Jodeci, Tank and Dave Hollister and it was a natural progression for him to start making R&B music. With such strong role models, he was able to draw inspiration and set his own blueprint on a genre that he truly loves. Ricardo explains “I think a lot of people try to recreate the songs of the past. I try to recreate the feelings of what I loved about those songs. I try to make my own melodies that bring out those feelings in people. When I write I want you to feel whatever emotion I am going through. I want it to feel personal. I want you to feel like you are in my life”. In 2016 his single ‘Deeper’ grabbed the attention of R&B lovers and received radio support from BBC 1Xtra and across community radio stations.
Ricardo Williams gained critical acclaim for the track which featured R&B royalty Teedra Moses. His year continued to see his profile rise seeing him support Faith Evans at O2 Indigo in London and he has since teamed up with some of R&B’s leading lights on both sides of the Atlantic. Fast forward to 2019 Williams’ EP, The first artist to be released via The Record Box is ‘Intermission Vol 1’ project consisting of 8 unapologetic, unfiltered R&B moments delivered with the depth, soul and emotion that touches the very heart of any listener. True to the labels ethos, Ricardo’s debut EP has all the feels of 90’s R&B twisted with sounds, beats and delivery that make it feel perfectly at home and at ease in its current setting.
